Michael A. Kling, O.D.
Dr. Michael A. Kling is president and CEO of Invision Optometry. Founded almost 20 years ago, Dr. Kling’s drive and passion has created one of the most successful eye care practices in southern California. Dr. Kling graduated with honors from the Southern College of Optometry in 1993. Following graduation, he completed residency training in Ocular Disease and Pathology at the Omega Eye Care Center in Jackson, TN. In 2000, Dr. Kling was named “Young Optometrist of the Year” by the California Optometric Association (COA).
Dr. Kling is a member of the American Optometric Association (AOA), the California Optometric Association (COA) and is a past president of the San Diego County Optometric Society (SDCOS). In addition to private practice, Dr. Kling frequently consults and speaks for Leadership OD, a practice management consulting company for eye care professionals. In his free time, Dr. Kling enjoys running, cycling, and playing guitar in his rock band, Backstage Pass. He and his wife Jennifer, have two children, Robert and Ryan.
Amanda K. Dexter, O.D., F.A.A.O.
Dr. Amanda Dexter received her training at Southern California College of Optometry in Fullerton, California, where she was the class of 2010’s Valedictorian and former President of Beta Sigma Kappa International Optometric Honor Society. Dr. Dexter completed residency training at the VA San Diego Healthcare System in La Jolla where she gained an extensive clinical experience in ocular disease, geriatrics, traumatic brain injury and low vision rehabilitation. Dr. Dexter is a past president of the San Diego County Optometric Society where she actively participates in local vision screenings for underprivileged children.
She is a current Candidate for Fellowship of the American Academy of Optometry, a distinguished association of accomplished eye care providers. In her spare time, Dr. Dexter enjoys exploring San Diego and the surrounding areas by hiking and mountain biking with her husband, Mike. She also takes pleasure in snowboarding in the winters and going to the beach in the summers. Dr. Dexter is also an avid sports fan and enjoys watching UCLA athletics and attending Padres baseball games.
Gary P. Krueger, O.D., F.A.A.O.
Dr. Gary Krueger graduated with honors from Bishop High School (Bishop, CA) in 1964 and later attended the University of Redlands majoring in chemistry and biology. He is a 1971 graduate of the Los Angeles College of Optometry where he graduated magna cum laude with his Doctor of Optometry degree. Following optometry school, Dr. Krueger joined the US Army from 1971 to 1973 while stationed in Stockton CA. Following his military service, Dr. Krueger moved to San Diego where he entered private practice.
In 1975, Dr. Krueger became a Fellow of the American Academy of Optometry, a distinguished association of accomplished eye care providers. He is a member of the American Optometric Association (AOA), California Optometric Association (COA) and the San Diego County Optometric Society (SDCOS). Dr Krueger’s special interests include sailing, snow skiing, road trips to historical sites, and visiting California wineries with his wife, Nancy, a local Physical Therapist. They also enjoy membership at the Silver Gate Yacht Club and support Make A Wish Foundation.
Philip B. Smith, O.D., FCOVD
After years of operating one of the oldest and most well-established practices in San Diego, Dr. Philip Smith joined the practice of Dr. Kling and Invision Optometry in 2015. Dr. Smith has been in private practice in San Diego for over 45 years helping children with visual related learning disabilities, by providing vision therapy. He also specializes in contact lenses for adults and children.
He has served as president of the San Diego County Optometric Society (SDCOS), and was elected president of the California Optometric Association (COA) in 1995. Dr. Smith has performed numerous research studies in contact lenses and solutions, and has authored numerous articles on the subject. He and his wife, Kenda, received their masters degrees in Marriage and Family Therapy and are owners of Advocates for Families and Couples Foundation where they counsel couples and families in crisis. They have 4 children and 7 grandchildren.
Wendy Gross, O.D.
Dr. Wendy Gross earned her doctorate of optometry at Nova Southeastern University in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. She then set off to sunny San Diego to complete her Residency training at the VA San Diego Healthcare System in La Jolla. While caring for our Veterans, she gained extensive clinical experience in ocular disease, geriatrics, traumatic brain injury, and low vision rehabilitation.
She enjoys staying active in the optometric community by attending numerous continuing education events as well as serving as a Trustee for the San Diego County Optometric Society. In her spare time, she likes to stay active by hiking, skiing, and doing yoga. She loves taking adventures with her San Diego family and friends.
